[Talk] Been away~
I've been really busy at work for quite awhile, and I've been neglecting
this wonderful source of entertainment - PTT - but now I'm back.
I doubt I'd be free enough to again write on a regular basis, but at least
I'll be able to read and respond :)

Some ramblings on life:
1) Services to the handicapped is great in the US.
Recently I sprained my ankle badly, and on the night before my scheduled trip
from NYC back to California, too. I'm a solo traveler / backpacker, which
made this a lot worse than if I had traveled with a friend.
However, beginning from Amtrak (passenger train company in the US) I had
services staff push me around in a wheelchair. From my regional train station,
to Grand Central, to Jersey Transit (another train company), to Airport
service, to US Airways, to my taxi home.
I've never needed wheelchair service before, but I don't remember seeing
such service in Taiwan. Perhaps readers could enlighten me?

2) Healthcare is damned expensive in the US.
I went to a doctor to have my ankle checked because I wanted to make sure it
was just sprained and not broken. My out-of-pocket costs (co-pay) were:
Doctor's visit $30
2x x-rays $20
drugs (anti-inflammatory/painkillers) $10
additional surcharge $15 (evening visit)
So I paid $75 even with insurance. The bill was $365 and i would've been on
the hook for the entire amount if I didn't have insurance. All for a sprained
ankle.
What I loved about the bill was $100 for a pair of aluminum crutches.
NT$3,000 for the pair of crutches!!
I shuld've been a doctor :(
