如果有某些因素(factors), 確實會影響(influcnce)這些疾病的
發生機率(the incidence of deseases),
那就不能說這些手術是unnecessary.
(譬如說地區居民年紀較大或是當地環境的影響之類...)
反正若能證實(establish)手術頻率的差異與這些因素無關(unrelated),
就可以支持 "差異是由於許多不必要的手術所導致" 這樣的結論.
