標題：從簡易的句意法破解GMAT新制Sentence Correction的難纏題【從傳統文法形式(form)結構的窠臼中擺脫出來，把出題的重點放在全句的語意(meaning) 上。】 GMAT所考的句子更正(sentence correction)部分，每題所附的五個答案中，至少有一個以上牽涉到與原句的句意不合，即改變原句的意思，這個答案當然立即摒棄不選。考生若能領悟原句『真正』句意，面對選項就不再徬徨，不再困惑，立即掌握了的得分之鑰，立即享受得分之樂。最後，一定會發現考好GMAT這部份，並非難事，原有捷徑可循，那就是「七分句意，三分文法修辭」。下面範例，取材於The Official Guide for GMAT Review(13th edition)(679頁，42題) 42. To develop more accurate population forecasts, demographers have to know a great deal more than now about the social and economic determinants of fertility. A. have to know a great deal more than now about the social and economic B. have to know a great deal more than they do now about the social and economical C. would have to know a great deal more than they do now about the social and economical D. would have to know a great deal more than they do now about the social and economic E. would have to know a great deal more than now about the social and economic 有if的子句「不一定是假設法」(subjunctive mood)，沒有if的子句「也不一定不是假設法」，一切都由句意決定。因此，句意所指「不一定符合事實」或「一定不符合事實」，選擇有假設法動詞 (should/would/could/might)的選項。秒殺超速解題法：本題沒有if子句，但是屬於假設法題型，此題5個選項的取捨，其重點在於是否真正懂「什麼是假設法」，至於易混淆的字詞(troublesome words)economic/economical，那是次要問題，暫時擱置。此題破題關鍵在more accurate，為了發展更精確的人口預測，人口統計學家這次預測精確，那下次的預測會不會比上一次更精確？也許會，也許不會，所以不一定，因此要選有假設法(subjunctive mood)的選項， A. B.為直說法，所以不選， C. D.
