[字彙] aster-/astro- 字根 "星"
今天 M-W 每日一字是 asterisk (n) 星號 <= * 這個符號
來自希臘字根 aster- 表示 star。注意 astr- 和 star 的排列順序。
其他字如 astrology (n) 星象學 (log- 表示 "學問")
asteroid (n) 小行星 (-oid 表示 "像...")
astral (a) 星的
disaster (n) 災難 (dis- 表示 "away, without")
令我感到興趣的是 disaster 這個常見字 (最近世界上發生了不少
disaster)，為什麼災難跟星星有關係呢? 原來是從 "the unfavorable
aspect (position) of a planet or star" 的這個意思來。這裡的
aspect 特別是指觀測星星的方位。
古人觀星象以預測未來，如果發現星星的位置不對，那就表示災難要來
臨了。
