各位版友好: 最近在寫一份投到國外研討會的proposal(500字底線)。 Proposal The purpose of this study is to investigate how service learning programs work at Brigham Young University (BYU) —a representative of sectarian communitarian character education. Since character education within the higher education stage in Taiwan is not promoted broadly, BYU, which is known for its service learning, can be a good exemplar for universities in Taiwan. Four main points are discussed in this paper. First, based on Robert J. Nash’s classifications of three communitarianisms, post-liberal, civic-liberal and sectarian, the author further discusses character education from a sectarian communitarian perspective, especially emphasis on the educational spirits of a sectarian college. That is, a sectarian college, such as BYU, is regarded as a community , which should be a civic educational space and service learning is the most practical way to glorify God and promote citizenship. Furthermore, the author investigates the Center for Service and Learning (CSL) at BYU, which functions as a central system that provides meaningful service opportunities for BYU students. This Center is guided by five principles: safety, respect, reflection , selflessness, and meaning. Main programs include community service projects, tutoring training, service certification projects, and student service council. Programs are based on student–volunteers and an atmosphere of service and learning. In Taiwan, compared to public colleges, service learning in sectarian colleges is more active because of the secular spirits of religion. Nevertheless, both public and sectarian colleges define service learning programs as required classes which focus on “laboring” while “learning” and “volunteering” are not manifested in depth. On the other hand, most sectarian colleges are lack of an administrative institute, to make an overall plan of service learning issues and provide necessary assistances for voluntary undergraduates and teachers with interests. According to the discussion above, three suggestions are provided for service learning of sectarian colleges in Taiwan. First, university authorities can develop a central institute to coordinate all service and learning programs, including serving activities of student associations, classes required by professional courses, and tutor training. Second, service combined with students’ major learning would be an effective way for students to practice their professional knowledge and develop voluntariness at the same time. University authorities can encourage academicians to offer elective professional course inclusive of service. In addition, to strengthen the atmosphere of service in campus, university authorities can provide both teachers and students courses of professional service development, such as leadership programs, philosophy of service and so on. Finally, the establishment of service certification system may be an appropriate way to strengthen the sense of voluntary service among undergraduates. However, this kind of system should be constructed under a totally voluntary base without pressure from others. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 218.171.140.91

大多很OK. 唯一看起來較不習慣的是以However做結尾.
