1. Some people think that human needs for farmland, housing, and industry are more important than saving land for endangered animals. Do you agree or disagree with this point of view? Why or why not? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer. People do need land for their activities, and so do animals. Every creature share the same right to live on the Earth. For centuries, humans have occupied most of the land to expand their life zones. The human population has soared up in an extreme high speed; thus, the need for food and land has been parallel to it. Some species live in a specific habitat, such as the Taiwanese masu salmon, which lives in the upstream where water is cold and clear. The masu salmon is a stenothermic and stenohaline species. Invading their habitat not just endangered the salmon but almost made them extinct. Competing for the land with animals, human is always the winner. However, whether human will still regard the triumph a good thing in the long run is a question. Expanding humans' territories to irrigate, grow crops, and build shelters gives animals no choice. They have to find some other suitable habitats to breed their progenies. Destroying their habitats kills the chance for them to give birth. Moreover, industrial wastes contaminate the environment which can no longer be turned back. This results in a worse situation where numbers of the endangered animals keep shrinking. One day when it goes to introduce animals to children, they can only see them illustrated in encyclopedias. I disagree that humans' need for land is more vital than that of animals. The Earth is a beautiful planet because of its varieties of creatures. Perhaps we take it for granted that all land are people's possessions, but making other species emigrate and emigrate no where then extinct is desperately hurting ourselves, because the ecosystem will be hurt. The earth is no longer a wonderland. ※ 編輯: jennyQ 來自: 211.74.177.168 (04/30 21:19)
