1. Students at universities often have a choice of places to live. They may choose to live in university dormitories, or they may choose to live in apartments in the community. Compare the advantages of living in university housing with the advantages of living in an apartment in the community. Where would you prefer to live? Give reasons for your preference. ================================================================ According to my experiences, although students are free to choose where to live, living in university dormitories is always much more popular than apartments in the community. Due to the large amount of applications, students need to draw lots for the opportunities of living in dormitories. Those who were left out are reluctant to find the renting information. Why in the world is living in university dormitories preferable? I think there are at least three main reasons as follows. First of all, the expense is the chief consideration for them. Living outside needs considerable money, including rents, food, utilities, telephone, and gas. Due to the heavy burden, most students choose a cheaper place to live. Generally, dormitories are narrower and cruder but cheaper than apartments. The safety purpose may be the second reason. In school dormitories, one must use an identity card to enter or call your roommate to open the door. In addition, there is a guardian near the entrance. In contrast, no safeguard for those who live in apartments. Especially, if a student lives alone, more care is indispensable. The third one seems not very essential but sometimes very essential. Less distance from the school, the less time you cost to go to and fro. In case of examination, you can save your spare time to study. What’s more, if you are eager for a shower after heavy rain or exercise, the convenience to get home can benefit you very much. Certainly, there is no absolutely good answer for the two choices. Both of them have their advantages and disadvantages. What one should do is to weigh the pros and cons, and make the most proper decision. As for me, based on the sakes mentioned above, living in university dormitories is favored to me. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 59.117.190.95
