3. Some people choose friends who are different from themselves. Others
choose friends who are similar to themselves. Compare the advantages of having
friends who are different from you with the advantages of having friends who
are similar to you. Which kind of friend do you prefer for yourself? Why?

In my opinion, I prefer to choose the friends who have different background
or characters than the ones who are too similar to me. Although both kinds of
friends can bring me a lot of advantages, different friends could broaden my
mind more. Therefore, I would make various kinds of friends rather than just
one.
Actually, it can not be denied that the friends who are similar to you might
understand you more quickly than someone is not. However, the friends who have
different background can bring you to another way to think, especially when
you are in troubled. For example, when I was a freshman in the college, I broke
up with my boyfriend. I was too heartbreaking to do anything but just stay at
home. During that period, the friend who ever had the same character with me
only cried for me and tried to console me. Of course, it's not working. Just at
that moment, another friend who had different view started to drag me out of
my home, and helped me to do what I should do, such as completed my study,
did some exercise. She taught me to look on the bright side of my life and
cherish it. Therefore, she became one of my best friends.
Moreover, a different friend would show you new interests. I can learn much new
skills from them. Take my friends for example, she originally was a country
girl who lived in a remote area, but I was a girl who has been lived in the
city since I was born. When we knew each other, we share a lot of hobbies.
I stated to learn how to swim in the sea, and she learned how to use computer
and some professional software. Consequently, because of those friends, I can
not only receive various cultural differences, but reach any kind of potential.
To sum up, the friends who are different from me can open my mind. Although
it might result some conflict between us, it create more advantage to my life.
