3. Some high schools require all students to wear school uniforms. Other
high schools permit students to decide what to wear to school. Which of
these school policies do you think is better? Use specifc reasons and
examples to support your opinion.
=====================================================================
Clothes, from the utilitarian point of view, are to cover your body,
providing a shield of protection against any physical contact with
outside world which might injure, such as sharp and pointed and rough
surfaces, cold climate, chilly wind and rain.
Clothes can also provide with accessory value, say, personal characteristics.
When you put on a piece of clothing, you know it will be seen, so
you've decided what you are going to show to other people about what
kind of person you are. Different clothes give a variety of features.
So if a school require its students to wear uniform, it will deprive
them of the right to distinguish themselves. Everyone wears the same
uniform, and then of course there'll be fewer peculiarities one can
pick out from individuals.
But there's a justified cause to wear uniform. To develop a sense of
camaraderie among a group or a team, each member should learn to identify
with each other. And when they see something on other members which
they also carry on themselves, they'll feel belonging to a common cause,
a common goal. So they can work toward the same objective.
