[心情] 親愛的學生們
Dear son/daughter
There is nothing that I need to say that you don't already
know about the significance the test means to you. You must not be
mistaken when I use "significance" here because significance bears various facets.
When I was your age, I, too, was in the struggle you are in now;
all that mattered in my life was all about competition and the yearning how
getting admitted to prestigious universities may change my life and make it
better. To me and my contemporaries, it was the age of winning or
losing, and nothing else might even be half as important as the test, and
the result from it; it was literarily to substantiate the Darwinian's theory
in a less brutal and bloody way, tests, to eliminate people of potentail
threat in your way to success. But you know what? I, having failed once in
chasing the goal you are chasing now, somehow survived.What's even not
forseen is that not only did I survive, I also fell in love with an
incredible woman, your mom, and then we had you, the greatest gift life
gave us
At this moment I think it should be the perfect timing for me to give
the "All is well" speech as you probably have heard too many of them from
HOLLYWOOD movies, which exaggerates too much that everything will eventually
be OK even if we fail in fulfilling our responsibility(in your case tests),
but we both know that movies are not the reality in which we dwell, and
inspirational stories in movies are at best the reminder that however rare,
hopes DO exist, what's more important is that we should not exploit too much
from such a rarity; we also need to be aware that the price for not paying
enough efforts in the pursuit of our happiness while we could in the past is
inevitable. In short, I do wish you to understand that life, moves on not
by a single success nor does it stop at a sole failure. What truly matters
is not to remain undefeated; it is, with a touch of cliche, the will to get
up where you are knocked down so badly that your faith almost dries out
that matters.
Now before your mom starts nagging, put some clothes on,
and concentrate on what needs to be done....Oh, by the way, for the sake of
the safety, don't cook for us...
