There are two kinds of hobbies.
"Passive hobbies" and "more active hobbies."
The author believes that
"more active hobbies" are ideal for heath.
Therefore to the author,
"the health ideal" is the same thing as "more active hobbies."
She believes that "more active hobbies" are better for the cancer patients.
If the health ideal (i.e. "more active hobbies") is not possible,
passive hobbies (such as reading or listening to music) is also good.
I agree that the author likes to play with sentence structures.
Shifting words back and forth
in the way that can be a little confusing to the readers.
