※ 引述《obiter (加油!)》之銘言: : Just wondering, who likes Harry Potter here? : I can't say that I'm a fan or anything, but it's true that I've read all 6 books : that are out so far. They are definitely worth reading I think, but as a : general comment, I'm starting to worry about them being children's books! : Especially as the series go on, they get more and more dark and scary, almost : morbid. And I'd hate to think of some poor 8-year-old reading about this kind : of stuff: dark magic, revenge, hatred etc etc. Gosh! I'm sure books were a lot : more innocent when I was a child!!! : Overall, here's what I think about the books. The first one was definitely : excellent, I really enjoyed it. The second one was really good two. Third one : not as good as the previous ones, but still OK. I didn't realyl like the : fourth one, thought it was a bit too long, and too much unnecessary detail. : Also, disliked the fact that it was getting progressively darker! The fifth one : I have to say, was really bad. The first chunk of it was really really boring, : and the rest of the book was better, but again, getting even more evil!! >< : The latest book though, the sixth one, I thought was quite good. Even though : I was unfortunate to have been on the plane on the day that the book was : released, so read about all the spoilers without warning!!!!! I was so : disappointed with what happened in the book (I won't say it now in case : any of you want to find out for yourself!). : Anyway, the sixth book turned out to be really good! Despite being dark and : rather depressing, it was shorter than the fifth one, and much more exciting. : So yeah, these are my views on the books ^^ Feel free to completely disagree : haha~ : One last thing, I think it's true for all books, but especially so for : Harry Potter, you need to read the English version to truly appreciate it. : Because there are so many plays on words that are simply not transferrable : no matter how good a translater you are! : What do people think? I happened to be a huge Harry Potter fan. Since, well, my first year of junior high. I must admit that the story is going darker and darker indeed even though I have always reckoned that this series is no fairy tale. Worrying about the series' influence on children's mind, however, quite underestimate the mental maturity of children nowadays. With inundating information of violence and the unveiling of the even darker side of our society, children today are far more prematured than we can ever imagine. It seems to me that there is little possi- bility that children might not be able to tell the story from reality. After all, the series is much more than entertainment, it also reveals the bright side of humanity-- love, courage, and indestructible friendship. And all of the above conveys educating concepts that are often too abstract to depict in simple words. Personally, I like "Harry Potter and the chamber of secret" most. Though the end of this book is a little bit too childish. (Come on! A fourteen- year-old short wizard grasping a heavy sword against the giant snake and successfully beheading it? ) The plot of this book was arranged with deliberate considera- tion, and Tom Riddle's being the early stage of Lord Voldemort undoubtedly amazed me. The latest two books of this series, in my opinion, has gone way too complicated. Yet, those seemingly unnecessary details might play an impor- tant role of the following story. They might become, as you can call it, the critical foreshadow of the not yet predictable ending. If not, I will still say that it is the circumspection of the most trivial details that appeals to me. Because with more knowledge of the details of the magical world, I feel more involved in the fascinating story taking place. At last, who wants to be a muggle after reading such engrossing story? I totally agree with you about the English version part. However outstanding the translator can be, it is never possible to precisely recur the atmosphere Rowling established in another language. The fifth book of the Chinese version especially disappointed me. Lack of continuity and the reckless revision have discouraged me from buying Chinese version ever. I do think that readers will be much more enjoyable while reading the English version. -- -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 218.168.56.185
