Because I thought "I really don't think so" and "I don't really think so" are
the same meaning, but actually they are opposite.
"I really don't think so" means "I don't think so".
"I don't really think so" means "I think so".
In the sentence "I really don't think so", "really" defines "don't think so".
Therefore this sentence means "I don't think so".
However in the other sentence, "really" defines "think so".
That means "I don't completely think so".
Therefore it means "I think so, but I still have a little problems".
I think the second sentence is very tricky, maybe I can't explain very well.
