I must say...are we on the same page? I get the feeling that you are missing my point here. My original point was that there is no UNIVERSAL intrinsic value. And hey, you're agreeing but now you're missing my point by going on. Also, your slight inconsistencies in opinions are confusing me. No offense or anything, you getting mad at those "No Culture" people in the first place shows that you don't feel compassion for them. Pity? Yes. Compassion? No. After all, you can't pity and show compassion at the same time. Pity means that you are taking the holier-than-thou mindset and scorning what they do, feeling sorry for them for being so inferior. Showing compassion means that you understand their reasons and you forgive them. Judging from the way you keep categorizing good and evil, I am not getting the feeling that you are sympathizing and showing compassion for this so-called "evilness" in humanity. ※ 引述《celestial09 (celestial)》之銘言: : ※ 引述《BloodLust801 (就是要虐到神經崩潰)》之銘言: : Kitty, I don't blindly believe that people are all virtuous in the firts place. : I understand the evil side and selfishness of human nature more deep than you. : I just know the fact, and accept it, yet in the same time I have the RIGHT : to choose what kind of person I want to be. My life is determined by me, not : by others. Well said. You choose what kind of person you want to be, I choose what kind of person I want to be. Everyone chooses what kind of person they want to be and therefore values are different. When values are different, judgement will differ, and therefore there is no absolute truth in a person's judgement. When there's no absolute, generalizing is useless. When there's no absolute, there is no good and no evil. Just as you have the right to choose the way you want to live, everyone also has the right to choose the way they want to live. What authority do you have to determine whether they are right or wrong? Unless you are god, but maybe even a god cannot determine such things. : The more I understand the evilness, the more compassion and pity I have for : humanity. I will NEVER, ever put Profit above integrity. That is my life : motto. Admirable indeed. However, I'm just saying not everyone is the same. There was really no point in making your life motto clear to me because I already know it was your life motto without you specifically typing it out and I'm not saying you shouldn't follow through. It is better if the rest of humanity has the same life motto you have but nope, not happening. Life shall always be shit. Also, I somehow get the feeling that you are now assuming that I will intentionally hurt others for my own profit, but I'm not that much of an asshole. I do think it is impossible for me to not hurt anyone for my own survival, however. You just can't satisfy the entire world. When the entire world can be satisfied, the world will be a boring ass paradise and no one will be able to appreciate or enjoy anything anymore. Perfection does not exist, and thus the ideal of satisfying the entire world does not exist because there will be a contradiction of what people desire and what they desire cannot be satisfied at the same time. Resources are scarce. If a country is trying to ensure the resources for the sake of its own citizens at the expense of all competing countries, can you really say that country's government is evil? Can you? Yet, a government's job is to ensure the best for its citizens, is it not? Evil or Good, IMHO, there's no point to defining such things. People just have different priorities. Do I despise those who have no respect for another's rights? Yes I do. Do I think they are evil? No. They just have different priorities. Thus, I didn't mean that people will ALL intentionally hurt others for their survival. Some might, I said. Basically, I was simply refuting the term "UNIVERSAL". : You know why people read Chinese poems, which value loyalty, integrity, : compassion and a responsibility for the betterment of mankind (their country)? : That's because something touches them, and it lasts for thousand of years, : and was memorized and praised by billion of people of Chinese origin. Actually, I think most people were memorizing for the sake of memorizing. Most people memorize for the sake of acing their test. I'm not saying that everyone is memorizing for the sake of acing their test, but I'm just pointing out that even though some people may be touched, you can't touch the entire world because people have different values. And since not everyone in the world can be touched, this universal intrinsic value is not so universal at all. : If you think these people are stupid and don't understand humanity, that's : wrong. They just understand it deeply, being heart-brokened yet choose : to shoulder it, and find a better solution for it. This is where you are completely throwing me off. When the hell did I say I thought ALL these people are stupid and don't understand humanity? I said I see the point. I don't think they're wrong. I just don't concur. When I say I see the point but I don't agree, I don't mean that I think my opinion is better than their's, I don't mean that I think they are stupid. If I thought they were stupid I would not have seen the point to their efforts. I hoped you'd catch onto what sort of person I am after having argued with me for quite a few replies but alas, I didn't expect you to understand me and voila you misunderstood me. Well, it's all reasonable, as it's difficult for two people to reach an understanding much less the entire world. Though, I have to say that I do second-handedly know someone who is being used by his friend and doesn't know that he is being used, who keeps believing in that "friend". So, yes, there are still good people who don't understand humanity. Why can tragedies of betrayal happen anyway? Anyhow, as I've stated priorly, people are, in the end, different and thus they hold different values. One can never fully understand another, so it is rather extrmely conceited to claim that one understands another-- which is why I just don't agree with generalizing... ...Like assuming there's this universal intrinsic value. That's just generalizing the entire humanity. It is impossible to know the truth. You can believe that there is a intrinsic value, though, because I also have no proof that I am correct. As I've stated before, there is no truth in what we believe, and I think that we humans are not meant to ever reach or know the truth because of the disaster that might occur when the truth is obtained/revealed. However, curiosity will always drive us to search for the truth, and I won't deny that I myself am extremely interested in the truth. Curiosity makes this boring ass life slightly more interesting. Difference makes this boring ass life slightly more interesting. I am having some fun, for example, debating this topic. Why am I able to debate? Because there's a difference in our opinions. Truth shall never be obtained then, even though I want to know the truth. So, I don't think it's wrong to look for a solution, even though I don't think there's a solution. In conclusion, I was simply providing my point of view to show you what sort of opinions does someone who doesn't agree with you hold. No need to get all defensive. Don't know if it's because I don't admire the people you admire but that's just life. I have no intention to force my perspectives onto you, as I believe we are all free to believe in what we want to believe. The entire point was not to convince you to agree with me, nor was it to persuade you to believe that you are mistaken, after all. I've already said before, I don't think you are wrong. Since there is no absolute truth, neither of us are wrong, but neither of us are right. I respect your opinions but I don't agree with them, simple as that. Therefore, I think I've already said everything I can to provide you some insight of different perspectives, so I think this debate can come to a closure. I enjoyed typing these long ass essays and yeah. Nice knowing you. P.S. Although I know you didn't mean to insult me, I was rather insulted by your calling me 'Kitty', which is why I suggest you to use that term sparingly. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 118.160.162.93 ※ 編輯: BloodLust801 來自: 118.160.162.93 (10/26 00:22)
