[Talk] The different between Mahayana and Hinayana
You probably remember last time I was mentioned two terms about Buddhism that
Mahayana and Hinayana, and said that both of them has been called Two
Vehicles. But now, I am not so sure it is turly correct or not, according to
the book, the Two Vehicles seems are Sravaka and Pratyekabuddha.
You may ask," What are the meaning of Sravaka and Pratyekabuddha?"
Unfortunately, I don't know, the only one thing I knew about them is, the two
words are not English, but Sanskrit.
I cannot look them up from dictionary.
Anyway, this time, I still want trying that use my own way to explain what is
different between Mahayana and Hinayana.
In Buddhism's realm, there have two types of practitioners called Arhat and
Bodhisattva, Both of them are the students of Buddha.
The Arhat who learned the Buddha's teaching, got enlightenment and then, went
to the Pure Land. They went to Buddha's Land through Hinayana; and
Bodhisattva who did the same thing like Arhat did. But when Bodhisattva
already went to the Pure Land, they have see so many people live in the world
with suffering and illness, in this case, the Bodhisattva just came back the
world from Pure Land, try to saving people from great suffering...
Because of this kind of merciful behavior, we say that Bodhisattva head to
Pure Land through Mahayana.
I had heard that the Buddhist monks who live in China and Taiwan practicing
Mahayana, and in India, practing Hinayana, On the other hand, the Buddhist in
southeast Asia become Bodhiasttvas in the future, and the Indian monks could
only become Arhat.
Perhaps some people do not understand what are the meaning of Arhat and
Bodhisattva? Because their didn't read any English books about Buhhism, and I
have not explain it, after all.
Because my foundation of English is not good enough, here I could just use
Chinese to annotate the meaning of them. Arhat is 阿羅漢 and Bodhisattva 菩薩.
