Well, it's a tough issue. And I would say it depends. Here, I want to
use a different way to look this kind of interesting matter.
To some extent, this issue is like in science when you have to hold on
your opinion, and when you should let this belief go and look for
other explanation when the argument could not be prove or disprove
at that time.
Some scientists raise some standpoints that could not
be accepted by modern time, such as Copernicus who proposed the Heliocentrism
during sixteen century that overthrew the contemporary cosmology.
It turns out to be right afterwards in this case, but we could imagine that
there could be many scientists holding totally different views which
probably all of us never hear this kind of idea because the voice is too weak
to express in public. The main question is should they keep trying to
put more effort on this uncertain hypothesis in the rest of their lives?
If this assumption later is proved that it is wrong, then this scientist
seems doing nothing during his lifetime (however, from the different
perspective, this scientist suggested a contrasting way to understand
its topic).
The conclusion is no matter the issue you insist is right or wrong which
would be proved later, the only thing we could do is making the choice you
believe after judging the situation you confront thoroughly.
