1. 可以,被動分詞是可以修飾逗號前面的第一個名詞
2. 我會先說,除非是明顯的文法錯誤自己改正(像是主動詞一致或時態)
否則自己改句子來討論正確與否是沒意義的
一來 GMAT SC 的答案有時不一定是在討論正確性,
而是比較上來說哪個句意較佳 (且有時是 GMAC 說了算)
所以自己改句子來討論 其實意義不大
不過回歸原 po 所寫,我們看以下正確句子:
By 1940, the pilot Jacqueline Cochran held seventeen official national and
international speed records, earned at a time when aviation was still so new
that many of the planes she flew were of dangerously experimental design.
句意為: 1940 年, JC 有了 17 項正式的國際飛行紀錄,這些紀錄是在
飛行觀念還在初始階段,許多他飛行的飛機還是危險的實驗機取得的紀錄
(中文翻譯不夠好請見諒)
原 po 句子:
By 1940 aviation was still so new, the pilot Jacqueline Cochran, earning
seventeen official national and international speed records at a time,
flew many of the planes were of dangerously experimental design
文法基本上應該有誤:
1. 兩個句子沒連接詞
2. flew 和 were 一句話有兩個動詞
句意為: 1940 年,飛行觀念還在初始階段,JC,取得了17項正式的國際飛行紀錄,
使用了許多很危險的實驗機做飛行
這樣的句意會和本來想表達的正確句意有不小的差距
1. 原本正確答案使用 so that 連接了兩個觀念
aviation was so new --> planes were of dangerously......
而原 po 的句子將這兩個句子隔離太遠,沒有連接
2. 請注意核心句意盡可能 (但違反並不見得是錯誤) 用主要動詞 (main verb) 表達
正確答案將取得正式紀錄放入核心句 (held 17 records)
而這句也的確是這句話的核心觀念
原 po 的句子將 "flew many planes" or "planes were of dangerously"
這兩個其中一個當核心句 (因為兩個動詞我看不出哪一個是原 po 要表達的)
但不管是哪一個 相信都不是原句的核心句意
當然,(1) 取得 17 項飛行紀錄,(2) 是用還是危險的實驗機達成
這兩個觀念應該是相輔相成,強調這紀錄的可貴
但我想比較上來說,飛行紀錄還是核心句意
最後,我還是建議專心把 SC 的五個答案完整討論出,
會比自己想其他可能性來的有效率許多
