(a) The girl sprayed the paint on the wall.
(b) The girl sprayed the wall with paint.
Discuss how the syntactic role as a direct object or indirect object may
determine the semantic interpretation and discourse function of an NP in a
sentence.

It is generally held that English tense has the primary function of signaling
time-reference. A problem encountered by language teachers, however, is that
tense often serves non-temporal functions. Consider the following example and
discuss the various functions played by the past tense.
It's high time we left this place.
這題我想說
left是指該離開卻沒離開嗎??

Why "He brushed the accusations off" is allowed but "We can't brush the
neighbors off again" is strange?
這題我想說…
因為accusations是非人 neighbors是人
不知道對不對…
感覺答案很虛…

Consider the following sentences.
a. It seems that Donna has quit her job.
b. I took it for granted that you would help me.
c. It takes money to have this kind of house.
d. I find it impossible to be nice to John.
e. It's none of your business who I loaned my car to.
f. The idea is absurd that he could get into Harvard.
What rule(s) can you generate from the above sentences and how?
