John kept his house clean/cleaned. (1.11) John hired a maid [in order] to (S->NP). John kept NP. His house is clean/cleaned. 2.) I could smell the toast [as it was] burning. 2.) I could smell the toast [as it was] being burnt. 3.) The noodles taste [like they were] overcooked. 4.) Jim refused to taste the bad-smelling soup. 5.) The world is amazed by China's fast-growing economy. 6.) The general was given far-reaching powers to deal with the emergency. 7.) The self-absorbed girl doesn't care about anyone but herself. 8.) I have never seen such a well-behaved child. 是因為(跟上個問題一樣)你要描述一個人已實現的狀態，不要指一個人目前看得見的動作。如果我們的語言沒有自己的形容詞描述我們意義說的意思，就可能利用一些規則發明比較清楚的形容詞。例如： (0) Cake fattens people. (0.1) Cake is fattening. (0.11) Cake is fattening to people. (0.2) People are fattened. (0.21) People are fattened by cake. Work absorbs the girl. The work is absorbing. The work is absorbing to the girl.
