The concept of the technology was first
brought up by Sanford (1988) and later made into reality
by Christou et al (1988).
The original experiment was done on soybean by Christou et al,
but was soon shown successful on many other plant species
(Christou 1992).
Today, it is the routine of many labs around the world.
