[Idea] Do we need "English Name"
Before I study in the US, I never find anything wrong to have a "English
Name". To get a new English-style name can be said the first issue of our Eng
education. However, when I stay with my foreign classmates, they seldom get
a new English name. Some African names trouble me for the first week.
Anyway, strange name is not a big deal at all for the long term. The more
strange name the higher first image. :p
Some Asian student who use "English Name" may cause less trouble
in making friend with others at first time. However, "Eng name" may cause a
very big disadvantage in missing the link between the one's Chinese network and
foreign network. People who only know the "Eng name" can't figure out what
he had done with the "Chinese name" (publish, business, personal
relationship... ) and the one may lost many opportunities even without
reconize the reason.
In my case, I use John only if the one know well about my Chinese name
(eventhough they pronounce my name in foreign-style) or in the event
I don't want get any connection (doing questionnaire, chatting
with someone in pub).
It is only for my personal experience.. :)
Nice to meet you in Engtalk board
