John, I am in another side that disagree with your idea. Only thing that comes to my mind is.. A name, is just a name after all. I have been to states for 7 years... No problem at all I have no problem here in Taiwan too... my friends around me still call me Derrick... Whoever treasures me as a friend will still do.. not cuz of my name, it is because of me.. Name is just an indentity.. Sure, sometimes people forget your Chinese name and such.. However. what impression they got from you is the most important thing.. In the other hand, give foreigner a Chinese name will make it hard to memorize. So, they might not remember you after all.. For my own experience... I have known so many friends from all over the world... Some have English name and some don't... I only remember those who gave me English name... (Except one from Thailand named OIL -_-" ) It is not I don't care for others.. It is not making sense for me to write down the name and try to remember it. Therefore, I still highly recommend people to have a English name.. It doesn't have to make sense... but it surely needed to be easy to say.. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 211.21.104.51
