TOPIC: ISSUE5 - "A nation should require all its students to study the same national curriculum until they enter college rather than allow schools in different parts of the nation to determine which academic courses to offer." In this inconstantly changing world, the environment is always changing and different in different places of the nation, so is any society, thus, people need much more diversified curriculum to meet the need of any society and in different places, especially the aspect about the structure of human society and skills to live on. However, since national curriculum enacts an indispensable role of elementary knowledge, nations should order students to accept the same national curriculum as well before college education. As the society and the environment we live are changing, so do the structure of the society (that is, the patterns we live, the ethos we constitute, and the opinions we express) and the resources we use, national curriculum may not be suitable to maintain and adapt to the style of the inconstantly changing world in different occasions, such as that the knowledge we learn from the same national curriculum would not teach students how to adapt to new technology and new careers to live on. Thus, schools should provide courses which cater to the change of the world and local environment to enable students have ability to habituate new changes of the structure of the society and material environment they live. For example, while the technology of machinery came as a great advancement in 17th century, people found that machinery could replace many aspects of society that people had deemed from the knowledge they learned in contemporary curriculums, thus, schools should provide people with new curriculum about machinery to teach students how to use machinery in daily life so as to make the life more convenient and propel the development of any fields of knowledge, whereby, people knew how to use machine to manufacture in factory, to be new traffic tools, and to make a tool of communication. Therefore, schools should provide students with the curriculum to cater to the change of the world in their situations since the change makes a great shock on the structure of the society in any area and the resources we use to live. Nevertheless, schools should also provide the same national curriculum before college education since people need to know the position we stand which is composed and founded by the steps of the advancement we have developed that common knowledge recorded and describes in the same national curriculum. In addition, it is important to know this common knowledge which usually records and teaches students elementary knowledge students should know, thus, school should provide the same national curriculum which enacts an indispensable role of elementary knowledge. For example, elementary school should teach students sociology (which is one of the common course in elementary school) about their national background to realize who they are and what their origins of cultures are to germinate self-ideology then to cohere their concept of society they live, whereby, students will know their identities. Thus, to accept common national curriculum before college is essential to see the contour of the society people live, schools should also provide the same national curriculum. In conclusion, in this inconstantly changing world, the environment is always changing and different in different places, so is any society, schools should not only provide diversified curriculums to cater to the change of the world and local environment to enable students have ability to habituate new changes of the structure of the society and material environment people live, but also teach the same national curriculum which records and teaches students elementary knowledge students should know. TOPIC: ARGUMENT219 - The following appeared in a memorandum from a vice president of the Megamart department store chain. "For the third year in a row, the average household income in our country has risen significantly. That prosperity means that families are likely to be spending more time and money on leisure activities. Megamart stores should therefore concentrate on enlarging and promoting its line of products typically used in leisure activities: athletic and outdoor equipment, televisions, gourmet cooking equipment, and luggage and travel accessories." The memorandum suggest that Megamart department should enlarge and promote its line of products which are used in leisure activities, however, the suggestion is based on unpersuasive inference since the reasons are fallacious to bolster the ideas the vice president broached. The claim says that average household income in the country has risen significantly, whereas, the sample is based on country and average perspectives, the patrons of Megamart department could be the people who only earn low income, thus, the inference of the claim would not be convincing to assure readers that people in the area of Megamart department are wealthy to consume more products in Megamart department. In addition, if these people have earned high income, people may not spend their money or time, reversely, people may save the income they earned, furthermore, even people are willing to consume, they may not prefer any products of leisure activities, even they may move out the area into better community, besides, in spite of the above assumptions were true, people may not consume in Megamart department but patronize the opponents’ stores, thus, consumption on Megamart department would not increase. Thereby, Megamart department should not concentrate on enlarging and promoting its line of products used in leisure activities. In conclusion, only when the suggestion provide persuasive evidences to prove the claim and exclude alternative explanations, the suggestion should not be adopted to increase the revenue of Megamart department. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 114.44.202.217
