BBS
Bulletin Board System (BBS) is a computer system based on the Internet.
It provides users a lot of useful functions, such as publishing articles,
exchanging messages and playing online games.
At the early stage of Internet development when people still used modems
to connect to the Internet, BBS was very popular. The first BBS was started in
1972 in Berkeley, California. Unfortunately, after the World Wide Web was
invented, BBS had lost its crown.
However, there are many users who still like to use BBS today and most of
them are students. Because information on BBS is exchanged very fast and
almost every university in Taiwan have their own BBS, it is still popular on
campus. One of the largest BBS and the most famous one is PTT. Acorrding to the
report of PTT, the average number of users who are online simultaneously is
more than forty thousand.
Today, lots of students like to spend their time surfing on BBS. They use
BBS as a way of communicating with others, making new friends or getting the
newly information. Undoubtedly, BBS has became an important role in our daily
life.
