I got one response from a native speaker (Dave Phillips) on an EFL forum www.englishforums.com. Dave Phillips Thu, 01 Apr 10 11:00 AM He was at the farm - he was staying there. He was on the farm - he was working there. Hope his explanation can shed new light on how to understand better the collocation of "on/at the farm".
